Controversial The popularly known “Portable” singer from Nigeria, Habeeb Okikiola, claims that Seyi Vibez plagiarises Asake’s musical aesthetic.
The ‘Zazu’ crooner made the assertion while participating in the most recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, which actor Nedu and Nedu co-host.
He explained the reason why he and Seyi Vibez had a falling out.
“Seyi [Vibez] copies Asake, says Mr. Money,” claims Portable.
Seyi [Vibes] pleaded with me to appear at his show after I became viral. There was no payment made to me. I distributed N500,000 as well. At his concert, thugs attacked me, robbing me and injuring me. My jewellery was completely stolen. I did not demand payment from Seyi. I ascribed the decision to take me to the performance to my manager.
However, Seyi Vibez—who had just become famous—rejected my invitation when I was going to host my own concert at the Fela [African] Shrine. The conflict between Seyi Vibez and I started over this.
He asserted that he would continue to “fight” Seyi Vibez with his “talent” as long as Seyi is consistently chosen by the organisers of the awards as the “Best Street Artist” before him.
A joke at musicians who use streaming farms to rig the rankings of their tracks on online streaming services was also made by Portable.
“I am a fisherman; I am not a farmer. Fishermen and farmers both play musical instruments. Streaming farms are used by farm musicians to improve their chart places. One week later, a current number-one artist would fall to number 174 on the charts. That demonstrates the existence of streaming farms in our sector.
