Grammy-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage as Tems, has named Asake, a fellow South African singer, and Tyla, a rising star in the country, as her current favourite African musicians.
The Oscar-nominated singer recently gave a speech on the Time100 Next Gala red carpet in New York.
“Who are your favourite African artists right now?” the interviewer inquired.

“My favourite African artists right now are Asake and Tyla,” Tems retorted.
She was honoured at the 2023 Time100 Next event as one of the honorees. A next-generation voice was given to her.
Not just the “Essence” crooner from Nigeria made the Time100 Next list for 2023. Wemimo Abbey, the founder of a tech company, and co-founder Samir Goel of a health start-up, Cityblock Health, both made the list with their venture, Esusu.
