On Sunday, a United Nigeria Airline flight NUA0504 that was travelling to Abuja from Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport touched down at Asaba International Airport in Delta State.

Passengers found the incident alarming, and it was said that the bad destination weather in the country’s capital was to blame.

The passengers were informed that the flight was diverted, but the cabin crew still declared that they were landing in Abuja, according to one of the passengers, @dawisu, who used his verified X handle to publicly criticise the airline.

“We took a plane to Abuja, then the plane took us to Asaba. They even declared, “We are going to touch down at Abuja Airport.” And then, whoosh! We can see the airport in Asaba. He wrote, “United Nigeria Airline is just an airline anyhow.”

In response, the airline’s management stated that the announcement was made in error in a statement released by Achilleu-Chud Uchegbu, Head of Corporate Communications.

He said that the aircraft’s pilot had received the appropriate briefing and was aware of the detour.

“However, the cabin crew misinformed the passengers after safely landing in Asaba, which caused confusion.”

However, he pointed out that as the destination weather improved, the aircraft made a safe landing in Abuja.
