Arsenal’s failure to win trophy is Ljunberg’s greatest disappointment

The “biggest regret of his life,” according to former Arsenal winger Freddie Ljungberg, is the Premier League team’s failure to win the Champions League.

In their lone farewell match, against Barcelona in 2006, the Gunners were defeated 2-1.

Players like Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, Ljungberg, and Sol Campbell were in Arsene Wenger’s team back then.

Despite Campbell’s header putting Arsenal ahead, goals from Juliano Belletti and Samuel Eto’o saw Barca come back to win.

We had an excellent crew, therefore I’m at a loss as to why. The only modification in strategy that we made to play 4-3-3 and protect the centre a little bit more was when we advanced to the Champions League final. However, twenty minutes later, we received a send-off for Jens [Lehmann].

We just made that one modification in the end, but I can assure you that it still bothers me still. Though it’s our obligation as players, we weren’t good enough or performed well enough, which makes me quite disappointed. However, after giving it some thought, you concluded that we ought to win this, Ljunberg remarked during a Monday Night Football speech.
