HMS Trent, a warship of the British Royal Navy, has arrived in Lagos.
As part of its regional mission in West Africa, the warship is making its second trip to Nigeria to assist British allies and partners in the fight against piracy, human trafficking, and other illegal activities.
Ndidiamaka Eze, the Senior Press and Public Affairs Officer at the British High Commission, stated that the visit would support maritime security in the area and assist in providing capacity training.
Eze claims that the warship is just in Nigeria to help West African nations build their capacity to combat unlawful crimes.
“This deployment shows how a truly Global Britain is stepping up on the world stage to tackle shared international security challenges,” said Jonny Baxter, the British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos.
“The UK values Nigeria as a key defence partner in West Africa. We are eager to collaborate with Nigeria to fight the numerous challenges that our two nations share and to enhance marine security in the Gulf of Guinea.
