The Nigerian Army has stated that an internal investigation has been launched to determine the veracity of the claim that troops are not receiving adequate nutrition at the front lines of the North East Theatre of Operations.
A social media report claimed that the troops were not being properly fed.
However, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has ordered an immediate investigation into the charges to determine their authenticity and elucidate the circumstances, according to a statement made on Tuesday by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations.
“The NA wishes to assure the public and all NA personnel that a thorough investigation will be conducted to get to the bottom of these claims,” he stated.
According to the declaration, among other significant plans and factors, the wellbeing of the troops under the current NA leadership is given top priority.
“However, we accept that there might be a few isolated instances where mistakes are made, and we are determined to directly address them. To find out the truth behind these accusations, an internal investigation has already been started.
He continued, “We will carefully investigate the supply chain, the calibre of the food delivered, and any other variables that may have led to this circumstance.
He continued by saying that the Army was devoted to openness and accountability and would not tolerate any kind of carelessness or wrongdoing. He also said that if any guilt was found, it would result in the proper disciplinary action.
“We also urge NA staff members to voice any complaints or issues they may have with their eating arrangements. We have established avenues for feedback, and we will respond quickly to any valid complaints.
“The NA continues to be steadfast in its war against insurgency and other security issues. We will thus make sure that our brave soldiers receive the assistance and attention they need in order to do their tasks successfully.
The statement concluded, “We are determined to making sure that our troops are adequately fed, inspired, and outfitted to defend our nation.
