Army Chief’s Team Outplays Prince Harry’s Team in Volleyball Match
During a three-day trip to Nigeria to raise awareness for his Invictus Games, Prince Harry participated in a seated volleyball game with army veterans, many of whom were wounded in battles against the country’s Islamist insurgency.
The Duke of Sussex, accompanied by his wife Meghan, arrived in Abuja on Friday, where they visited a school to discuss mental health and met with injured Nigerian soldiers in the northwest region.
At an officer’s mess complex in Abuja, Prince Harry’s team, dressed in yellow, competed in an exhibition match against a team led by Nigeria’s chief of defense staff.
Despite taking an early lead and receiving cheers of “Team Harry” from the crowd, the prince’s team ultimately lost 25-21 to the commander’s squad.
Among the players on Prince Harry’s team was former Nigerian soldier Peacemaker Azuegbulam, who lost his leg in combat and made history as the first African to win gold at the Invictus Games in Germany.
Azuegbulam expressed his gratitude for Prince Harry’s visit, stating that it was an honor for Nigeria and Africa to host the royal.
Prior to his visit to Nigeria, Prince Harry was in London to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
