Armed Individuals Surround Oyo State Government Secretariat
Armed individuals launched an attack on the Oyo State Government Secretariat during the early hours of Saturday, making an attempt to gain access to the Governor’s Office and the state House of Assembly complex.
The motive behind this violent incident remains uncertain, given that the secretariat was unoccupied and on a break at the time of the intrusion.
Witnesses reported that the assailants, donned in military-style camouflage attire, concealed their identities with masks and scarves.
Accounts from eyewitnesses revealed that it required the collaborative efforts of on-duty police officers at the Governor’s Office, members of the South-West Security Network (Amotekun), and additional security reinforcements to thwart the invaders.
The intruders purportedly arrived at the secretariat in buses displaying a flag associated with certain activist groups.
Residents in the vicinity of the secretariat heard gunfire as security personnel engaged with the suspected criminals.
A substantial number of security forces, including soldiers, have been deployed to the area, securing all access points to the secretariat.
Traffic has been redirected away from the affected area, while it remains uncertain whether any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
As of now, neither the Oyo State Government nor the police authorities have issued any statements regarding the situation.
