In the nation’s capital of Dhaka, Bangladesh, a large fire that had engulfed a shopping centre with 3,000 businesses was being put out by firefighters and army men on Tuesday, according to fire authorities.
No injuries have been recorded as of yet in the incident, which broke out early on Tuesday morning. But, army forces were called in to assist as flames spread quickly in Bangabazar, the iconic textile market district of the nation.
Rashid Bin Khalid, a fire service spokesman, told Reuters that 50 fire units were battling the flames, which had no obvious cause.
Given that the fire started early in the morning before most stores had opened, the majority of the shops were reduced to ashes, but Khalid said there was no information on whether any persons were trapped inside.
Rescue operations were hampered because of the smoke that covered the region and the increasing flames from the complex, according to a fire officer.
