The suspect is in detention pending more investigation, according to the Internal Security Commissioner.

An individual who is known for supplying weapons and ammunition to bandits in Kaduna State has been detained by Operation Forest Sanity troops.

Aminu Abdullahi, the suspect, was detained as he was delivering a sizable amount of ammo to bandits at the Polewire region in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna State.

Samuel Aruwan, the state’s commissioner for internal security and home affairs, said in a statement that the forces had investigated reports of local gunrunning activity based on reliable intelligence. During their thorough investigations, they had halted a vehicle that appeared suspicious.

The military personnel found more than 2,000 rounds of concealed ammo in various places throughout the black Toyota Corolla they had detained.

In addition, 1,079 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 886 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammo, 139 rounds of 7.62mm tracer ammunition, and five empty AK-47 magazines were found after a thorough search of the car, according to Aruwan.

The commissioner claims that the suspect is being held for additional investigation.

In the meantime, Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed happiness with the discovery of a sizable cache of ammunition and praised the military for their proactiveness in preventing criminals from obtaining a significant amount of ammunition intended to inflict further harm and misery.

In addition to thanking Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, General Officer Commanding, One Division, for his leadership in achieving the most recent breakthrough, the governor tasked security forces with conducting a thorough investigation into the arrested suspect and stepping up their efforts to break up gunrunning networks in Kaduna State and elsewhere.
