Argentina overcomes Peru in World Cup qualifying match, with Messi breaking Suarez’s record

Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina, is currently CONMEBOL’s highest scorer in World Cup qualifying games.
Messi increased his goal total to 31 by scoring twice as they defeated Peru 2-0 on Tuesday.
The 36-year-old has already overtaken Luis Suarez of Uruguay for the lead.
After being sidelined or playing from the bench for the previous four weeks owing to a muscle issue, Messi made his way back into the starting lineup.

With a fantastic performance, the Inter Miami hero gave Argentina the lead in the third minute. Ten minutes later, he increased their advantage with a ferocious finish off of an assist from Enzo Fernandez.
In the second half, a VAR review resulted in Messi’s goal being disallowed for offside, preventing him from scoring a hat-trick.
