Intina survived a valiant Netherlands comeback to go to the 2022 World Cup semifinals.
After their talismanic No. 10 converted a penalty late in the second half to follow up an improbable assist for Nahuel Molina in the first half, Argentina appeared to be out of it.
But the outcome of the game changed when Wout Weghorst came on as a substitute for the Dutch and quickly headed in what at first seemed like a consolation goal.
After a great free-kick routine that Argentina couldn’t handle, the former Burnley striker scored in the second-to-last second of extra time to send the game into extra time.
However, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez pulled off more heroic penalty saves to advance Argentina into the semifinals and simply postpone the Netherlands’ doom.
Instead of their long-time rivals Brazil, they will now face Croatia after Zlatko Dalic’s team also advanced via a shootout in the first game of the day.
