According to the organisation, 10 days is sufficient time for the government to figure out how to comply with a court ruling, which is crucial to achieving peace, order, and good governance in the nation.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari for disobeying the Supreme Court ruling ordering the recirculation of the old naira notes until December 31, 2023, in light of the continuing shortage of new naira notes as a result of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) recent currency redesign policy and its attendant hardship on the people.

The President’s behaviour, according to the Northern sociopolitical organisation, damaged his reputation as a democracy and a stickler for the law.

The ACF bemoaned that the naira redesign strategy has caused an out-of-control inflation in food prices and other commodities in a statement released by its Secretary General, Murtala Aliyu, on Sunday.

“Whatever the CBN or anybody else say about the advantages of the programme, which are plainly many, is of little consolation once the highest court in the nation has ruled that it is, or, at least, the way of its execution, breaks the law,” the organisation claimed.

The ACF further cautioned that the situation may develop into a significant social disorder, which might result in a collapse of law and order over all of Nigeria.

The ACF emphasised that people struggle to obtain the new currency, which has remained incredibly limited, while large groups and protracted lines form at bank offices and ATMs around the nation. “It has sparked riots and various types of civic disturbance,” it continued.

“President Buhari has sworn to uphold Nigeria’s constitution. As we have been his staunchest supporters for a long time, it would be negligent of us to omit to caution that the much-touted advantages of the redesigned Naira would never outweigh the harm to his reputation as a democrat and a stickler for the rule of law.
