The court also granted Ararume damages in the amount of 5 billion naira.
Ifeanyi Ararume has been reappointed as the non-executive Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Additionally, the judge annulled and overturned all NNPCL Board decisions and resolutions made from January 17, 2022, until the present in Ararume’s absence.
Ararume was additionally given 5 billion naira by the court as compensation for being wrongfully removed from his position as non-executive chairman of the NNPCL and having his term of office interrupted.
Ararume’s immediate return to his position as non-Executive Chairman of the NNPCL was mandated by Justice Ekwo.
The judge additionally ruled that Ararume’s dismissal after using his name to register NNPCL was ultra vires, unlawful, illegal, null, and invalid, and that such a blatant violation of the law could not be justified.
Ararume had filed a lawsuit against Buhari, asking the court to deem his ouster as head of the NNPC illegal, unlawful, and unconstitutional and that it was a complete violation of the CAMA statute, which was the basis for the incorporation of NNPCL.
Along with requesting that the court issue an order restoring him to his position, he also sought N100 billion in damages to make up for the hardships he endured after President Buhari removed him from office.
