A US ambassador has warned the Biden administration that the US’s prolonged support of Israel’s military operation in Gaza is inciting anger in the Arab world, as per a diplomatic cable acquired by CNN.
The TV network said on Friday that the cable represents US diplomatic concerns over growing dissatisfaction from Arab nations in the Middle East regarding Washington’s support of Israel’s shelling of Gaza in retribution for Hamas’s cross-border attack on October 7.
According to CNN, the cable, which the White House received on Wednesday from its embassy in Oman, stated, “We are losing badly on the messaging battlespace.” The conclusion was reached after discussions with “a wide range of trusted and sober-minded contacts,” it was stated.
The message went on to say that some in the Arab world believe the Biden administration bears “material and moral culpability in what they consider to be possible war crimes” due to its backing of Israel’s historic siege of the coastal Gaza pocket.
CNN obtained a copy of another diplomatic cable from the US Embassy in Cairo alerting US officials to an opinion piece published in a state-run newspaper in Egypt that claimed “President Biden’s cruelty and disregard for Palestinians exceeded all previous US presidents.”

According to Palestinian sources, at least 10,812 people—roughly 40% of them were children—have died as a result of airstrikes and artillery fire in the heavily populated Palestinian region as of Thursday. Aid agencies have also issued dire warnings about an imminent humanitarian crisis due to dwindling resources and the influx of injured patients into an already overburdened healthcare system.

In the meantime, Israel reports that 33 of its soldiers have perished in operations carried out in Gaza as part of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s promise to “eliminate Hamas” after its attack last month, which resulted in the deaths of more than 1,400 people, the majority of whom were civilians.
There is currently “no possibility” of an Israel-Hamas ceasefire, President Biden told reporters at the White House on Thursday. He emphasised his conviction that such a ceasefire would merely give Hamas time to reorganise.
However, in order to support humanitarian efforts, US officials have stepped up their efforts to enhance the amount of aid going to Gaza and have advocated for the implementation of daily four-hour “pauses” in the fighting.
According to CNN, there have been several pro-Palestinian protests in the vicinity of the White House in recent weeks. One entrance to the West Wing was recently defaced with graffiti that read “Genocide Joe” and blood-red handprints.
