Appeal made to Tinubu by ex-lawmaker from Osun to intervene in Dangote refinery pump price

Former Osun state House of Assembly member, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider reducing the current pump price of Automotive Gas Oil, commonly known as diesel, produced by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

He expressed concern that the N1,225 pump price set by the refinery seemed excessive for a product originating from a local company.

Oyintiloye, who was previously part of the defunct All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), emphasized in a statement to the press on Sunday, April 14, that there should be a noticeable disparity between the pump price of imported diesel and that of a locally produced one.

He highlighted the general belief among Nigerians that the commencement of operations at the Dangote Refinery would lead to a reduction in the prices of diesel and other petroleum products.

Oyintiloye stressed the importance of President Tinubu’s intervention in regulating the prices of products from the refinery to ensure a positive impact on the economy.

The former Assembly member questioned the rationale behind a scenario where a product from Lagos, Nigeria, had a similar cost to one imported from a different continent.

He pointed out that Nigerians are observant and would seek explanations for such pricing decisions.

Oyintiloye also raised concerns about the reported cost of imported diesel being higher than the price set by the Dangote Refinery.

He argued that since the refinery is a local company, the expenses related to logistics for importing products into the country would be significantly lower, suggesting that the refinery management should consider revising the price downwards.
