Appeal Court Retains Abure as Labour Party National Chairman
The appeal of the appellant was rejected by the three-person justice panel in a unanimous vote.
Obiora Ifoh, the party’s national publicity secretary, announced on Monday that the Court of Appeal, which has its headquarters in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, has confirmed Julius Abure as the party’s national chairman.
The appeal of the appellant was rejected by the three-person justice panel in a unanimous vote.
You may remember that Abure was suspended by the plaintiff, Lucky Shauibu, who is alleged to have been a member of the Labour Party in the Ward 3 Executive of the Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.
In the lead decision, Justice Theresa Ngolika Orji Abadua upheld the High Court of Edo State’s ruling and held that one man cannot suspend the national chairman of the Labour Party in accordance with Articles 13 and 17 of the Party’s Constitution and the current Electoral Act of 2022, especially when the appellant has been referred to by the party as unknown.
