The 200 NNPP lawyers who organised a news conference in Kaduna have been charged with unethical behaviour intended to incite violence in the political sphere by the All Progressives Congress, APC, Legal Team.

Recall that last week, at a meeting in Kaduna, a group of attorneys identifying themselves as Counsels to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) accused the Court of Appeal of committing a miscarriage of justice when it rendered its decision against Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State.

In response to that meeting, the APC Legal Team informed Newsmen in Kano on Wednesday that the NNPP lawyers’ actions went against the law and the principle of justice.

Along with Chairman Mustapha Idiris, the Secretary of the APC Legal Team, Hadiza Nasir Ahmad issued a warning, stating categorically that any attempt to damage the Court’s reputation or use blackmail is not acceptable.

“The 200 Lawyers embroiled in this controversy, we beg you to rise above political machinations and allow the court to carry out its duties free from outside interference,” they declared.

Lawyers are protectors of the law, and as such, Barrister Hadiza Nasir Ahmad stated that even in the face of a negative verdict, “we should collectively champion the rules of law and uphold the dignified essence of the legal system.”

The APC legal team is concerned, though, since it believes that the NNPP, its solicitors, and its supporters are actively pushing for a rally to oppose the court’s rulings.

“We acknowledge that these actions might be intended to incite chaos throughout the state, with the main objective being to scare the Court and the Judiciary into issuing a ruling in their favour.”

“However, we have complete faith in the court’s steadfast dedication to handling the matter exclusively on its merit, unfazed by such strategies,” she continued.

The Kano people, who are known for upholding the law, were praised by the APC Legal Team for standing their ground and refusing to be forced into pointless demonstrations in the streets.
