Three appeals challenging the election of People Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Sheriff Oborevwori as Delta State governor were filed by Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Kennedy Pela of the Labour Party (LP). The State and National Assembly Appeal Court in Lagos has reserved its decision in these cases.

The three-member panel, which was presided over by Justice Hamma Akawu Barka and included Justices Joseph Olubunmi Oyewole and Hadiza Shagari, heard arguments from the solicitors for each party and then reserved its decision.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed Oborevwori the victor after he received 360,234 votes as opposed to former Deputy Senate President Omo-Agege’s 240,229.

PDP, SDP, and LP disputed the announcement because they were unhappy with it.

The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Asaba, however, maintained Oborevwor’s victory, concluding that the opposing petitions were invalid and lacked evidence to support their allegations of excessive voting, disregard for the Electoral Act, and excessive voting.
