Members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are clearly at odds as the Appeal Court prepares to rule on Ladi Adebutu’s case against Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The PDP candidate, Adebutu, had previously filed a petition with the tribunal to contest Abiodun’s victory in the March 18 governorship race.
The PDP candidate had claimed that the Electoral Act’s requirements were broken in the election that resulted in Abiodun’s victory.
In addition, he asserted that over 40,000 voters were denied the right to vote as a result of violence, and the election was tainted by anomalies and dishonest behaviour.
He requested that the election be ruled void and that he be declared the winner.
However, Adebutu’s case was denied by the Hamidu Kunaza-led tribunal, which ruled that it lacked merit.
Unsatisfied, Adebutu went to the Appeal Court to get a remedy and asked that the trial tribunal’s decision be overturned.
Members of both parties reportedly left Ogun State to watch the court proceedings in Lagos State, according to Obasanjo News24.
The Court of Appeal in Igbosere, Lagos, will open for business at nine in the morning.
