APC Welcomes 600+ Defectors in Abia
More than 600 defectors join APC in Abia. Discover the details of this significant political shift.
A momentous political transition has occurred in Abia State as more than 600 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Young Progressive Party (YPP) have crossed over to the All Progressives Congress(APC).
During his tour across the 13 electoral wards in Bende Federal Constituency, Benjamin Kalu – The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives gave a warm welcome to new members as part of his “thank you” and mobilization campaign.
During his visit to Item Ward A, B and C; Ugwueke/Ezeukwu as well as Itumbauzo Wards, Kalu welcomed several notable defectors such as Hon. Enoch Elekwa and Hon. Chukwu Udensi who were former PDP councillors from Alayi Ward A, the previous LP ward chairman, Jonah Chukwu along with YPP’s vice-chairman of a ward Ekeoma Sylvester Eze besides Ndubuisi Sunday Agu – ex-APGA local government chairman.
While visiting Umuhu Ezechi Ward, Kalu witnessed more than 100 people openly declare their move to the APC party.

The Deputy Speaker was greeted by Paul Chikezie Mba, a former commissioner and chairman of Bende local government who previously handed over his position to Kalu 22 years before.
Kalu’s performance was lauded by Mba for his dedication in bringing several development projects such as roads, solar-powered energy, boreholes and schools to the ward.
Mba expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his enactment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill into law, believing that it would aid in further developing the community.
He showed faith in Kalu’s capabilities and remarked, “Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu surpassed my expectations with his remarkable intelligence; he has initiated infrastructure development such as roads construction, solar-powered energy systems to provide light supply across different areas, boreholes installation along with rehabilitation projects on schools and health facilities leading to job creation opportunities”.
The Deputy Speaker expressed gratitude for the support and encouraged residents to remain loyal to President Tinubu. He stressed that passing the SEDC bill would generate job prospects and address infrastructure requirements.
Additionally, Kalu distributed rice bags, fertilizers, and cash contributions among local youth groups along with women’s and men’s groups during his tour of the region.
The noteworthy political shift in Abia State is affirmed by both the wave of defections and Kalu’s enthusiastic involvement with his constituency.
This emphasizes how influential effective leadership and developmental initiatives are when it comes to securing grassroots support.
