Before the election next year, the Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress warned party officials against endorsing candidates for governor. It also threatened to discipline anyone who disobeyed the order.
When the party leaders met with Hon. Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, a potential governor candidate, at the party secretariat on Wednesday, state APC deputy chairman Jaret Tenebe issued the warning in Benin, the state’s capital.
He told Agbonayinma that by showing up to notify the group of his aim following his session, he had made a good first impression.
“What you did today is the best thing,” he said. You can now communicate with our employees working for the various municipal governments. Let our people know about the multiple MoUs the Obaseki government signed without doing any work; this will serve as the foundation for the campaign. Also, call their attention to the neglect of our traditional rulers in the state.
In a previous speech to the party executives, Agbonayinma requested their support for his nomination as a candidate for the party, claiming that he had been mentored by the state’s former governor, Adams Oshiomhole, who he claimed had performed in all three of the state’s senatorial districts without bias.
“APC must save this state for the honour of the All-Powerful God. I’ve come here to beg. I am capable of leading this state and I have what it takes. Please vote for my governorship nomination. Agbonayinma asserted, “I have the ability to achieve what others have not done. If elected governor, I will involve the party executives in decision-making.
The candidate, a former member of the House of Representatives, listed his accomplishments in prior government roles while bemoaning the slow rate of progress in each area of the state.
Additionally, Agbonayinma pointed out that while President Bola Tinubu did good by giving relief measures for the loss of gasoline subsidies to all states, Edo is yet to start distributing the relief measures to the state’s residents, adding, “They will account for the palliatives.”
