The United States of America chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned of a scheme to damage President Bola Tinubu’s reputation by a group of opposition politicians operating under the auspices of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) USA.

The ‘false’ NADECO has polished preparations to discredit Tinubu through a press conference being planned by the group, according to a statement released on Sunday and signed by Professor Tai Balofin, Chairman of the APC USA.

Although the statement claimed that the claims regarding Tinubu’s academic records at Chicago State University had been adequately addressed, it also claimed that NADECO USA, which was attempting to mislead the public about the matter, was not the same NADECO that Tinubu had been a part of under Abacha.

The complete text of the statement is as follows: “The leadership of the All Progressives Congress USA is obliged to respond to recent claims and remarks made by a political opposition party posing as the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) USA.

We’ve learned that the fake NADECO is planning a global press conference to spread misleading information about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s educational background. We firmly feel it is our obligation to shed light on this situation and highlight the value of established facts above hasty and unsupported claims.

While we value the press’s function as a democracy’s watchdog, it’s critical to distinguish between legitimate, productive inquiry and unfounded allegations. The Chicago State University (CSU) has responded to the claim regarding President Tinubu’s educational credentials, reaffirming the validity of the certificate. It is important to remember that this situation is already in the hands of the proper authorities, notably the courts, where the rules of due process and the law will be followed.

President Tinubu, a well-known person and statesman, has made a significant contribution to Nigeria’s political environment. His commitment to the country and his service to it have long been apparent. The attempt to damage his name for political advantage and cheap blackmail is deplorable and futile.

We also want to make it clear that the NADECO USA organisation hosting this world press conference is not the same NADECO that President Tinubu was a member of under the Abacha regime.

We implore the people to avoid falling for these attempts to embellish the past.

In conclusion, the APC USA leadership vehemently opposes any efforts to harm President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reputation and, by extension, that of Nigeria. We have faith that the judicial system and democratic procedures will effectively resolve any valid complaints.

Premature and unsubstantiated accusations not only harm the public but also run the risk of drawing attention away from urgent problems that actually demand investigation.

We continue to be devoted to democratic principles, and we urge this organisation operating under the guise of NADECO USA to engage in productive discussion and let the judicial system handle any legitimate complaints.

Both Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party should wait for the outcome of the Supreme Court decision.

In order to properly inform and direct the public and the foreign community about the real situation in Nigeria and the progressive leadership President Bola Tinubu is spearheading in our country, APC USA will hold a public campaign in Chicago on Monday, October 22, 2023.
