Candidate Shittu Ibrahim of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged as the winner of the Saki West State Constituency rerun election for the Oyo House of Assembly, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Shittu defeated his closest rival, Julius Okedoyin of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with a total of 13,692 votes compared to Okedoyin’s 13,422 votes.

However, Okedoyin and the PDP were dissatisfied with the result and approached the election petition tribunal, citing irregularities, over voting, and non-compliance.

The tribunal, led by Justice Jubril Anaja, nullified Shittu’s election due to the cancellation of results in two polling units, where over 1,000 voters were disenfranchised.

Shittu appealed the tribunal’s decision, but the Court of Appeal upheld the judgement and ordered a rerun in the affected polling units. In the subsequent rerun election, Shittu received 290 votes while Okedoyin obtained 330 votes.
