The All Progressives Congress (APC) has opted for a direct primary to select its candidate for the governorship of Edo State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the election for September 21, 2024, while the APC has set February 17 as the date for its primary poll. Duro Meseko, the APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, held a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday following a meeting between the National Working Committee (NWC) and stakeholders in Edo State.
Meseko stated that there are currently 29 contestants in the race. He also mentioned that the party will not be zoning its ticket to a specific zone in the state, and the NWC is encouraging some aspirants to step down to allow a few to compete in the primaries.
emphasized that the party is determined to regain control of the state from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and will employ all democratic strategies to secure victory in the election.
