Lawrence Ayeni, a member of the House of Representatives, claimed that 14 of his supporters had been killed days before the general election.
The revelation was made by the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday in Ilesa during his yearly lecture for Ramadan.
Atakumosa East/Atakumosa West/Ilesa East/Ilesa West Federal Constituency is represented by the lawmaker.
At the National Assembly election on February 25, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Sanya Ominrin defeated Ayeni with 41,437 votes.
Ayeni admitted that intimidation and thugs caused him to lose, but he urged the populace to embrace peace for Nigeria’s development and unity.
“I can’t hold my supporters responsible for not showing up. It was terrible what transpired leading up to and during the election, according to NAN.
“14 of my members were killed in Atakunmosa East before the election. The opposition’s threat was too much for them to handle.
Ayeni stated that stability will be ensured by a peaceful transfer of power at President-elect Bola Tinubu’s upcoming inauguration on May 29.
He urged the populace to refrain from violence before, during, and after the transition and to back the new APC administration.
