The All Progressives Congress, APC, has been the target of repeated defection attempts by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
Notwithstanding his position on allocating the presidency to the South, he has called the rumours linking him to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as “speculative.”
The politician from Ikwere, who has clashed with his PDP party, in the past, insisted that he is still an unrepentant PDP supporter.
The governor made this statement on Monday in Port Harcourt during the 114th general session of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers.
I am not and will not be a member of the APC, he declared. Nonetheless, they have forced me to admit that they are the national heroes.
He recalled how during the primary elections, the governors of the ruling party, particularly those from the north, advocated that power must migrate to the south.
The APC governors stated that given the state of the nation, they wanted to maintain its unity and that the South should thus hold the president, he continued.

All indicators point to the Rivers helmsman cooperating with the APC and its presidential candidate on a national level after having declared war on his party’s presidential nominee.
Since the main opposition party’s presidential primary result did not favour Wike, he and his party have been at odds.
When Atiku Abubakar was proclaimed the victor of the party’s primary election in May 2022, the governor, who had previously stated he would cooperate with the primary election winner, has continued to feel disgruntled.
