Senator Ahmed Barata, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been suspended by the APC’s Ketembere Ward executives in Adamawa State’s Shelleng Local Government Area.
Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani, an APC candidate for governor, currently has Ahmed Barata serving in the key role of director general (DG).
Barata was suspended, according to the APC Ketembere Ward Executives, for engaging in anti-party behaviour.
A letter issued to Barata and copied to APC Chairman Shelleng of the local government area contained information on Barata’s suspension and was made accessible to newsmen in Yola on Friday.
A list of the 27 executives who signed Barata’s suspension was included in the letter that was sent to news reporters, and it included the ward chairman, Iliyasu Mohammed.
The chairman and secretary of the party, together with all other members of the ward’s executive committee, signed the letter, which was headlined “Suspension From Being a Member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

They claim that the ward executives’ meeting in Ketembere on March 27, 2023, is where the decision to suspend Barata was made.
We, the exco members of this ward, have therefore decided to suspend you in accordance with all pertinent provisions of Article 21 of the All Progressives Congress constitution of 2022, as amended, which also grants the ward executive committee the authority to impose sanctions on any errant members regardless of their status.
According to the executives, Barata Barata participated in “anti-party activities during the 18 March Governorship and House of Assembly Election” and was a “principal actor in causing a crisis at polling units between agents sent by the party and those sent during the 18 March Governorship and House of Assembly Election.”
In the past few months, ward leaders have suspended at least four senior Adamawa APC members, making Barata the latest.
The party’s National Vice Chairman (North East), Mustapha Salihu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, and Senator Ishaku Abbo, who sits in the National Assembly and represents Adamawa North District, have all lately received the same treatment as Binani.
