Former Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal has come under fire from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for asserting that the Labour Party (LP) won the presidential election on February 25.
It was said that the state represented the height of irresponsibility.
Through Felix Morka, the party’s national publicity secretary, a statement was released last night.
It challenged Lawal’s assertion and denounced his illogical criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the esteemed position he holds.
In a statement made earlier on yesterday, the former SGF asserted that the LP candidate, not President Tinubu, had won the election.
In the statement, he asserted that information from unbiased sources showed that Obi won the poll with the majority of the vote and Atiku came in second.
The former SGF’s outburst, however, was described as “nothing but a figment of his warped imagination rather than hard facts and figures” by the APC in response.
The APC said in a statement: “The party noted that after a protracted absence while nursing his wounds following the colossal electoral defeat of his candidate in the most recent presidential election, Lawal openly returned to the political scene selling nonsense rather than reflecting calmly on his political misadventure.
“Lawal’s analysis, which was wholly based on the phantasm of his warped mind rather than on precise facts and numbers, is evidence that the defeat of his principal, Peter Obi, at the polls, has done immeasurable damage to his psyche and his capacity for rational reasoning.
He made allusion to the election taking place in May 2023 rather than February, which was “a clear indication of his disconnect from reality.”
The ruling party issued an ultimatum to Lawal, demanding that he either provide a thorough breakdown of his so-called “aggregated facts sourced from independent sources,” which he claimed proved Obi won the election, or remain silent indefinitely.
It stated: “It is a huge disservice, if not a breach of his political ideals, that he did not offer these data to enable Obi prove his case before the Presidential Elections Petitions Court.

“Babachir Lawal should have realised how irresponsible it is to publish a skewed commentary on a case that is currently before the Supreme Court. He still harbours resentment and vengeance, nonetheless, for his unsuccessful attempt to run on a combined ticket with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Babachir Lawal truly needs competent counselling and is deserving of our sympathy. He might never fully recover from the sorrow of being sent into the political abyss by President Bola Tinubu, who defied all odds to defeat Mr. Peter Obi, who abused our nation’s racial and religious divisions in his bid for the top job.
Thankfully, Nigerians from all ethnic and religious backgrounds opted for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu because they could see through Babachir Lawal and Peter Obi’s tricks.
The APC also chastised Lawal for questioning the professional qualifications of President Tinubu’s nominees, some of whom he could not compare to in terms of their professional and political achievements.
The group claimed that Babachir Lawal is a skinny politician who considers himself to be a heavyweight. In three election cycles, he was unable to secure his ward and the local government in his home state of Adamawa, failing miserably as a politician.
“Despite his illustrious failure as a politician, former President Muhammadu Buhari nominated him to the high post of SGF in deference to diversity where he was abruptly fired on account of extremely bad performance and conduct.
Babachir Lawal is not qualified to comment on the qualifications of President Tinubu’s selections.
We are certain that these appointees will uphold the President’s trust by fulfilling the commitments made in this administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The former SGF was advised by the party to focus on running his farm and to cease making himself into an unnecessary distraction suitable of his age and standing.
