Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for governor of Imo State on November 11th, will continue to serve as the party’s national secretary, according to the PDP National Working Committee (NWC).

The party clarified the matter in a statement released by Debo Ologunagba, national publicity secretary, on Friday in Abuja.

According to Ologunagba, the PDP NWC was made aware of a statement made by a group falsely claiming that Anyanwu had been stripped of his elected position as national secretary by the NWC.

“The NWC declares in the strongest possible terms that the accusation made by the organisation is entirely false because the NWC never relieved or even considered relieving the National Secretary, Anyanwu, of his position.

“The NWC therefore strongly condemns the action of this group, which is clearly the work of those who intend to humiliate, cause dissatisfaction, and create division in our party in their attempt to divert the PDP, our candidate, Anyanwu, and the people of Imo State in their quest to free the State from the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s (sic) grip.

“The NWC states and cautions that no matter how strongly an individual or group feels about an issue, resorting to fabrications, lies, and claiming of a non-existent decision by the NWC is highly condemnable,” Ologunagba added.

He asked Nigerians, in especially the numerous PDP members and supporters in Imo, to ignore the aforementioned untrue allegations because Anyanwu still serves as the PDP national secretary and the party’s candidate in the Nov. 11 governorship election.

“The NWC charges the PDP in Imo to remain united, focused, at alert, and to continue resisting the antics of suppressive forces which are bent on distracting our Party in the march to victory on Nov. 11,” added Ologunagba.
