Anxiety rises as Supreme Court prepares to deliver judgement on Kano guber dispute

The appeal filed by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who is contesting the Court of Appeal’s decision, has been scheduled for hearing by the Supreme Court for Friday, January 12.

Obasanjo News24 notes that Yusuf, who was elected on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, was dismissed by the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Nasir Yusuf Gawuna was given an order by the court to have a certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the March 2023 election.

However, Governor Yusuf went to the Appeal Court because he was not happy with the decision.

The appellate court concluded that the governor was not a member of NNPP at the time of the election, even though it upheld his dismissal.

The governor and his party made the decision to file an appeal against the earlier decisions in order to bring the case to a close before the Supreme Court.

Barrister Bashir Tudun Wuzirci, the NNPP’s legal team secretary, said Daily Trust on Wednesday that the verdict by the supreme court is scheduled for Friday.

Indeed, it has been formally verified. They have instructed us to show up for the ruling on Friday.

They advised us that no more than two counsels should be present for any one party.

He stated, “They explained that this is because they will be making seven rulings on the same Friday.
