An anti-sabotage group supports Tinubu’s proposal to end gasoline subsidies.
A citizens’ anti-sabotage group working under the auspices of The Natives applauded the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate for publicly stating that he will stop gasoline subsidies if he wins the general elections of 2023.
However, the anti-sabotage group pledged to support Tinubu in carrying out the plan and to hold him responsible for making sure that, if elected president, he would immediately abide by the vow.
PlatinumPost says that the APC presidential candidate promised Thursday at a business luncheon with company owners called “Business Forward” that he would end gasoline subsidies if he was elected, no matter how long Nigerian workers protested. The event was held at the Wings, Victoria Island, Lagos.
“How can we be subsidizing petroleum usage in Cameroon, Niger, and the Benin Republic?” Tinubu questioned. “We will end subsidies, regardless of how long you protest,” he declared strongly.
But after talking about the promise with the G-43, the national leader and president general of The Natives, Smart Edwards, praised the APC candidate for making “a bold statement to the oil cartels” in response to the pledge.
The group, which has many members from all 774 local government areas in the nation, complained that Nigeria loses more than five trillion naira annually to a few cartels under the guise of subsidies in a statement made available to the news media on Saturday in Abuja.
According to Edwards, eliminating fuel subsidies has been a difficult choice for every government over the years. But some cartels say that doing so would put the whole country at risk. This is a big fat lie, because Nigeria can’t keep giving money to a cartel.
How can we continue to support the consumption of our national budget under the guise of subsidy, with trillions of naira being spent each year to fund precisely what?
“Many people do not benefit from government gestures because President Muhammadu Buhari’s humanitarian project has a budget of approximately 500 billion naira, while the Ministry of Youths has a budget of nearly 80 billion for the entire youth population of the country.”What are we doing when the crucial sectors of the nation receive less than a trillion dollars in planning?
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, has received our message that if he wins the upcoming election and declares himself ready to serve as president at any time, we will support him. This is a bold promise that he must uphold, and if he is elected, we will hold him responsible for it.
“We are citizens, and we know that what we want is infrastructure, progress, and development in a safe nation, not a gang of people robbing us of our resources under the guise of subsidy.” The fact is that subsidies must end.
“However, we urge the labor unions, civil society organizations, and young people to be mentally prepared and demonstrate understanding because ending the fuel subsidy is a long overdue policy and the industry is imprisoned and needs to be unbundled.” We cannot allow saboteurs to willfully inflict immense pain on us as citizens year after year with our consent. The saboteurs’ malicious work ought to stop.
The organization stated that “take it or leave, Nigerians need the oil subsidy funds being freed up for other sectors,” while congratulating Nigerians on the 2022 Yuletide and urging them to exercise caution over the holiday season.
The Hon. Smart Edwards stated, “So, at a round table, we must discuss this subsidy again, remove it, and stop the bleeding.”
