Senator Ned Nwoko clarifies he has no interest in running for governor of Anioma State, focusing instead on other priorities and commitments.

Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents the Delta North senatorial district, has expressed that his endorsement of Anioma State’s establishment arises from a profound dedication to benefiting and advancing his constituents on a national level.

During the Anioma stakeholders summit held in Asaba over the weekend, the senator announced his declaration.

Participants from all nine local government areas in the senatorial district attended the stakeholder summit.

Nwoko clarified that his dedication lies in the progress of the Anioma community and refuted any rumors suggesting he has plans to run for governor, despite passionately supporting the establishment of Anioma State.

According to him, the first governor of Anioma State ought to be from the Ndokwa region – an area that has been historically neglected despite its vital role in oil production.

According to Senator Nwoko, his objective is to attain liberty for his constituents by having the inaugural governor of Anioma state hail from Ndokwa territory. He expressed that despite containing three oil-producing local government areas, the area has been overlooked and its surroundings are in a detrimental condition.

He emphasized the advantages of forming new states and made a comparison to how Delta state was separated from Bendel State, highlighting that statehood can stimulate progress. He pointed out that Asaba’s evolution into a bustling city after being designated as Delta State’s capital is proof of this fact.

The benefits of establishing Anioma state in terms of political gains such as amplified representation in the Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly were acknowledged by Senator Nwoko.

HRM Benjamin Keagborekuzi I, the Dein of Agbor, expressed his support for Ned Nwoko’s proposal on state creation during his speech.

He stated that support should be given to the demand for Anioma State as long as it is a legitimate pursuit and not aimed at breaking apart the country.

The monarch, present at the summit as a distinguished guest, emphasized that the movement for establishing Anioma State should not be made subject to political maneuvering.

According to Chief Dan Okenyi, the Local Organising Committee’s chairman, the summit aimed to unify every Anioma stakeholder into a single platform and establish mutual agreement for achieving an aspiration that has been long sought after.

According to him, the summit was anticipated to produce significant resolutions that would strengthen the Anioma State creation bill prior to its presentation in the Senate.
