A man was set ablaze by an angry mob in Delta State after being accused of beheading a woman, raising concerns over mob justice and law enforcement.

On Tuesday, turmoil broke out in the Otor-Owhe community of Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State. Enraged youths took matters into their own hands by setting a man on fire for allegedly beheading a woman.

The suspect, identified as Oghenero, is reported to have committed the horrific act in a wooded area after the woman allegedly slapped his mother.

Reports indicate that the incident incited significant outrage within the community, resulting in a mob taking action against Oghenero.

Eyewitnesses portrayed the scene as both tense and chaotic, noting that efforts by community leaders to restore order were unsuccessful.

A community source who witnessed the burning recounted the incident to SaharaReporters, saying, “The beheaded woman was from Emevor and Orogun. She allegedly slapped Oghenero’s mother during an argument. When Oghenero’s mother got home, she told him about what had happened between her and the deceased.”

Without hesitation, Oghenero went directly to the bush where he saw the woman working. He beheaded her and took her head back home.

Upon reaching home with the woman’s head in a plastic bag, Oghenero was apprehended by the local community vigilante. He attempted to escape but was shot in the legs and subsequently set on fire by outraged youths from the area.
