A suspected kidnapper was shot dead and the victim was also freed by Anambra State Police Command agents.
The incident occurred on Saturday night, according to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who made this announcement in a press release.
According to him, a kidnapping victim named Abuchi (surname withheld) from the state’s Orumba South LGA was freed with only minor wounds.
According to Ikenga’s news release, people in Obosi approached police officers who were on an anti-crime patrol and told them about a kidnapping occurrence at around 7.30 p.m. on September 9, 2023.
“The law-abiding individuals led the police in the direction in which the kidnappers had fled after taking their victim.
The kidnappers were pursued by police to an unfinished building in Umuota Village, Obosi, which was surrounded by bushes. There, the police and the kidnappers engaged in a gunfight.
“One of the hoodlums was shot and taken into custody, while others managed to flee with gunshot wounds.”
He said that the gang’s weapons, including a double-barreled pistol, two live rounds, and one used cartridge, had been discovered.
He said: “The detained suspect identified himself as Nwasu Ikenna from Obosi. Ebuka, also known as Big, Chinedu Emmanuel, and Chukwu Ojoto were the people who got away, according to him.
“The hoodlum who named Ebuka as the gang’s leader passed away on the way to the hospital for treatment.
“The at-large criminals will be listed as wanted and pursued, according to CP Aderemi Adeoye, the commissioner of police, who praised the crew for its bravery.
He gave the residents of Anambra State and the folks of Obosi assurance that the Police Command will continue to wage war on crime till the amount of crime is reduced to the absolute minimum.
