Anambra Govt Demolishes Hotel with Over 30 Secret Graves, Shrine, and Ammunition
Authorities in Anambra State have demolished a hotel reportedly housing over 30 secret graves, a shrine, and ammunition, in a major crackdown on criminal activities.
A hotel in Anambra State, identified as Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites (commonly referred to as “La Cruise Hotel”), situated along the Onitsha-Owerri Road, has been demolished following its recognition as a center for criminal activities such as kidnapping.
The state’s security unit, known as Agunechemba, executed the operation under the name “Operation Udo Ga-Achi.”
A statement from the Anambra State New Media shared on X late Saturday disclosed that investigators discovered more than 30 graves, a shrine, and live ammunition on the top floor of the two-story building.
Christian Aburime, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, verified the demolition and shared details of their investigation. “We demolished the hotel after discovering it was being used as a kidnappers’ hideout,” he explained. “Graves, army uniforms, live cartridges, and other incriminating items were found at the site.”
Aburime noted that the community had suspected illegal activities at the hotel for quite some time. “Residents frequently heard gunshots at night but were too afraid to report them, fearing they might be exposed,” he explained.
Reporters who reviewed footage of the operation observed as the security team leader detailed their unsettling findings. “We discovered a shrine here, along with live cartridges and ammunition,” he noted. “A pot containing blood was seized and is now located at the SARS Office in Awkuzu.” He also mentioned that feathers and other ritual items were uncovered. On the top floor, graves for more than 30 individuals had been meticulously sectioned off, according to his account.
The demolition is part of a larger security initiative under the recently enacted Homeland Security Law of 2025. Aburime mentioned that additional buildings connected to criminal activities would face similar measures. “This resolute strategy is already producing positive outcomes, and we are committed to eliminating criminals from Anambra State,” he stated.
The state government has issued a warning that properties linked to crimes like kidnapping, robbery, or murder will be demolished and their owners prosecuted.
Local residents reportedly celebrated the demolition, viewing it as a move towards enhancing their safety.
