Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi is allegedly strategizing to seize control of the state to oppose President Tinubu in the 2027 elections, according to Okocha. The political maneuvering signals potential future clashes within Nigeria’s political landscape.

Tony Okocha, the previous Chairman of the Caretaker Committee for All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State who was dismissed from his position, has alleged that Rotimi Amaechi – a former Minister of Transportation – intends to seize control over the party in order to challenge President Bola Tinubu come 2027.

Okocha made a solemn pledge to prevent Amaechi and his alleged accomplice, Emeka Beke, from carrying out their plans against Tinubu.

In Abuja, he addressed journalists in response to the court ruling that removed his committee on August 15th.

The APC Chairman Emeka Beke was reinstated by a High Court in Port Harcourt which also removed the Okocha-led caretaker committee.

Okocha expressed his disbelief at the idea that an individual with limited academic credentials could chair a meeting attended by esteemed individuals. However, the APC leader defended their stance and explained that they were seeking someone with a streetwise attitude.

The reality was that he desired a substitute, someone who would obediently carry out his commands. Although we resisted, the APC leader held significant influence as a former minister and party leaders remained loyal to him.

Beke headed the Rivers delegation consisting of 56 delegates and cast their votes for Rotimi Amaechi, who subsequently received all 56 points from the state during APC’s presidential primaries.

“We will not permit the plan to eject Amaechi’s associate, making him (Amaechi) assume control of APC and deploy it against the President in 2027.”
