The All Progressives Party, APC, gubernatorial candidate Tonye Cole and former transportation minister Rotimi Amaechi have been charged by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike of conspiring to prevent Bola Tinubu from becoming the next president.
Amaechi and Cole, according to Wike, rejected the APC’s power transfer to the southern region of Nigeria.

Wike stated on national television that Amaechi and Tonye Cole, a protégé of his, openly resisted the call for a power transfer to the South and worked against their party’s presidential candidate in Rivers State.
Cole immediately congratulated the winner on his Instagram account but then took the image down in response to criticism.
As the APC’s presidential candidate in June 2022, Tinubu had beaten Amaechi, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
