Police in Bauchi State have detained a housewife for allegedly killing her stepdaughter by assaulting her.
During a news conference on Tuesday, when the command paraded various suspects, Police Commissioner Auwal Musa Muhammad revealed this.
The CP claims that the suspect, Khadija Adamu, 18, of the Kandahar neighbourhood of Bauchi city, beat up her stepdaughter, “Hafsat Garba,” who is 5 years old, causing major injuries to her body.

According to the police chief, Abdulaziz Adamu, 38, of the Kandahar neighbourhood of Bauchi, reported the incident to the A’ Divisional Police Headquarters on September 28, 2023 at approximately 4:00 pm. Adamu claimed that the suspect had beaten the young girl.
After learning of the incident, a group of detectives under the direction of the DPO sprung into action, hurried to the spot, and transported the woman to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, where the doctor declared her dead.
The woman suffered varying degrees of injuries to her body, according to the preliminary investigation, which showed that the suspect beat her up over an alleged pass-stood that ruined her clothes.
“Without much resistance, the suspect confessed during questioning to the alleged act against her.
The suspect will be charged in court for the recognised offence in accordance with the investigation, which is still ongoing.
A 14-year-old student who was attacked by a possible ritualist has survived, according to a related development.
According to the police commissioner, an incident was reported to the Warji Divisional Police Headquarters on September 27 at around 11:00 p.m. by Jibril Sarkin Ruwa, 40, of Kadalen Kanawa village Warji.
The victim, Faruku Faisal of Kiyawa LGA in Jigawa State, was enticed into a thicket by the suspect, Dayyabu Yusuf, 39, of Tsangayan Jada inl, Jama’are LGA, and tried to strangle him with a rope, according to the tale.
Fortunately, the victim managed to escape during the ordeal and raise an alarm, which alerted bystanders and helped the victim, according to CP Muhammad.
“Upon learning of the information, a team of detectives under the direction of CSP Ahmed Buba DPO Warji sped to the scene and arrested the suspect, while the victim was immediately rushed to General Hospital Warji for medical attention, where he was treated and released,” he added.
“During questioning, the defendant admitted to the crime of attempted culpable homicide, but he denied that it was done for ritual purposes. Instead, he claimed that he had a falling out with Mallam Faisal and that is why he wanted to exact revenge on one of his students, Almajiri. His home was searched, but nothing incriminating was discovered there.
The investigation is ongoing, and once it is finished appropriately, the suspect will be charged in court for the recognised offences.
