A group of 60 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed their dissatisfaction with the alleged manipulation of the list of Local Government Caretaker Committees in Rivers and 10 other states.

They have threatened to leave the party if these doctored lists, which they claim favor members of the All Progressive Congress (APC), are not nullified.

Additionally, they have called for the resignation of the Acting Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagun, in order to allow a person from the North Central region to assume the role of acting chairman until a convention is held in accordance with the party’s constitution.

The lawmakers have accused Damagun of working for the APC and have criticized the inclusion of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and defected members of the Rivers House of Assembly in the Caretaker Committee.

They emphasized that they cannot remain in a political party that is influenced by another political party.

Led by Imo Ugochinyere, a member representing Ideato Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, the lawmakers, known as the ‘Opposition Lawmakers Coalition’, held a press conference in Abuja to address their concerns.

They also accused Damagun of supporting a plot to impeach the Rivers State Governor, Similayan Fubara.

As a result, the lawmakers have demanded the immediate resignation of Damagun or his removal by the party’s National Executive Committee, along with further sanctions for his alleged anti-party activities.

They have insisted that a credible party leader from the North Central region be appointed as the party’s chairman in accordance with the zoning formula outlined in the Constitution.

If their demands are not met, the Opposition Lawmakers Coalition has warned that they will reconsider their membership in the party in the coming months.
