In an effort to help its students become self-sufficient, the administration of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology in Wudil, Kano State, has included skill development into the curriculum.
Prof. Musa Yakasai, the university’s vice chancellor, revealed this to reporters in Wudil on Wednesday.
According to Yakasai, the pupils were receiving instruction in a variety of skills, including welding, hair styling, soap production, and room freshening.
According to him, the program’s objective was to give students a variety of entrepreneurial skills while they were enrolled in their regular academic courses.
As for the program’s benefits, the vice chancellor gave an explanation, saying that it would assist the students in comprehending “their real-life applications, life advancement opportunities, as well as career equipping and preparatory knowledge for the future.”
He claimed that in order to help students meet their financial needs, the university’s administration under his direction had also opened up a channel for them to apply for little, menial jobs on campus.
Additionally, he said that the college has completely renovated its female hostels to guarantee that the students would have a pleasant and healthy place to stay.
We have updated every hostel’s lavatory, and by adding more refurbished buildings that have been turned into hostels, we have cleared out the rooms.
“To ensure that the female hostels have a conducive learning environment, we ensure that each room has a maximum of six students.”
“In the event that the female hostels lose power, we have also installed a 91-liter water reservoir,” Yakasai stated.
He added that the university’s new library has state-of-the-art resources to support efficient study.
He also revealed that, in order to guarantee the security and safety of both employees and students, contemporary solar power lighting had been installed throughout the university’s campus.
In addition to the student registration fees, the vice chancellor announced that his administration has implemented new internal revenue generation initiatives.
Additionally, we intend to use 17 acres of land for mechanised farming and irrigation, which will strengthen our efforts to generate cash.
In order to provide consulting services to the general public and raise money for the institution, he added, “we have also formed a consultancy services unit.”
