Following a suicide attack in the southern Gedo area of Bardhere, many fatalities have been reported in Somalia.
An explosion struck a building housing regional authorities in the town centre early on Tuesday, according to a resident who spoke to VOA Somali.
The resident reports that at least two troops are thought to have perished and that the attack also left a number of other individuals hurt.
An early claim of responsibility was made by the insurgent organisation al-Shabab.
After an attack by alleged al-Shabab terrorists on February 21, 2023, security personnel in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, patrol the streets.
The organisation claimed in a Telegram message that a bomber drove a suicide vehicle bomb into a building where local leaders were convening to organise an anti-al-Shabab rally.
Since August of last year, the federal government’s forces have gained substantial ground in central Somalia as a result of civilian mobilisation.
Al-Shabab has carried out a number of strikes in reprisal that have been directed at towns, clan leaders, and commanders of the local militia who have been active in mobilisations against the organisation.

Ten persons were killed on February 21 when al-Shabab terrorists carried out an attack on a Mogadishu facility for pro-government forces personnel who had been injured during combat.
A military post in Janaa Cabdalle, 60 kilometres west of Kismayo, was the target of a complicated attack by the organisation on March 7. At least five soldiers were killed in the strike.
450 kilometres south of Mogadishu, Somalia, is where the Sanguuni military post is located. On June 13, 2018, Somali soldiers are patrolling there.
