Akwa Ibom: PDP under fire from opposition for claiming to have gained 37,874 defectors
The major opposition parties in Akwa Ibom State have strongly criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for their claims of receiving 37,874 defectors.
According to the opposition parties, this claim is not only misleading and false, but it is also seen as an attempt by the PDP to gain cheap political points.
The PDP had made this announcement during an event held in Uyo, the state capital, where they stated that members of opposition parties in the state had joined their party.
However, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Young Peoples Party (YPP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), among others, have expressed their disbelief and outrage at the figure presented by the PDP.
OtoAbasi Udo, the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, stated that the PDP is actively seeking new members and is inflating the numbers of those who have defected to their party.
He emphasized that there is no reason for members of the APC to leave the party in large numbers, as the party is strong and its leaders are actively working to strengthen it further.
Udo also mentioned that the APC is preparing to take over the state by 2027, and the signs of their progress are already visible.
He attributed the PDP’s outrageous claims to their fear of the APC and urged the people of Akwa Ibom not to be deceived by the grandstanding and deceitful tactics employed by the PDP during their event at the Ibom Hall Grounds.
