Akwa Ibom Governor Eno Sets New Minimum Wage at N80,000 for State Workers

In a significant move for labor welfare, Governor Eno of Akwa Ibom announces a new minimum wage of N80,000 for state workers. The decision aims to improve the livelihood of public servants and boost the state economy.

Governor Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has declared a new minimum wage of N80,000 for civil servants working under the state government.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information, Ini Ememobong, the governor directed the formation of an implementation committee tasked with delivering a report within one month outlining how to execute the wage increase.

The committee will be chaired by the Head of the State Civil Service, Mr. Effiong Essien, with 15 senior government officials serving as members.

The statement included the members of the committee, such as: Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission.

– Chairman, Local Government Service Commission – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance – Permanent Secretary, Department of Establishments – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning – Permanent Secretary/Solicitor General, Ministry of Justice –PermanentSecretary/AccountantGeneral. -PermanentSecretaryLocalGovernmentServiceCommission.

Others include the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Director of Budget, State Chairman for both Joint Public Service Negotiating Council and Trade Union Congress; as well as Secretaries from both councils. This group also features leaders like the State Chairperson of Nigeria Labour Congress in Akwa Ibom State and the State President of Nigeria Union Local Government Employees (NULGE).

According to the statement, Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has declared that the State Government will implement a new minimum wage of N80,000 for all its employees.

To facilitate a seamless rollout of this policy, the governor has established an implementation committee tasked with delivering its report on executing the wage increase within one month.
