On Thursday, thousands of supporters of Senator Albert Bassey Akpan, the YPP’s choice for governor of Akwa Ibom, came to Uyo to welcome the lawmaker back from prison.
According to Obasanjonews24, a Uyo Federal High Court presided over by Justice Agatha Okeke sentenced the senator to 42 years in prison for corruption on December 1, 2022.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused Albert of purchasing exotic cars from Jide Omokare, a contractor for the Akwa Ibom State Government, for N204 million.
A Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, released the Uyo Senatorial District Senator on bail on Wednesday.
In order to protect Akpan’s health, the court granted him bail while an appeal was being heard.
Running mate AIG Asuquo Amba Jr. welcomed Akpan and his throng of fans, saying that Akpan’s liberation was an answer to prayer.
