In a statement released on Friday, the group emphasized that with the Senate’s explanation and the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi who raised the allegations, the issue should have been put to rest.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had demanded Akpabio’s resignation over alleged budget padding, but PANDEF dismissed the sincerity of the demand.
The group’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ken Robinson, highlighted that those pushing for Akpabio’s resignation were being mischievous and their motives were clear.
He expressed disappointment in politicians and commentators who thrive on creating instability in the political landscape.
The statement further clarified that the allegations of budget padding and double budgets, as raised by Senator Abdul Ningi, were already addressed as misrepresentations.
While not condoning any wrongdoing, PANDEF stressed that it was unacceptable for individuals to tarnish the reputation of the first Senate President from the South-South in 40 years.
The group asserted that the people of the South-South region would not tolerate any attempts to discredit their political leaders, emphasizing that the country belongs to everyone.
