Senate President Godswill Akpabio encouraged discontented Nigerian citizens who are willing to protest, stating they should proceed with their efforts while he and fellow politicians enjoy a meal.

According to Akpabio, the repercussions of the situation in Nigeria are being experienced by all citizens; nevertheless, it is expected to be a temporary ordeal.

The event, held in Rivers state, was organised by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and he delivered a speech there.

The nationwide protest, set to begin on Thursday, was triggered by the challenges faced by Nigerians such as hardship, exorbitant cost of living and sufferings.

Akpabio stated that although everyone is experiencing the current situation, they are mindful it will only be temporary.

“Thank you for stating that we have no desire to bring about a change of government, MD. We should work towards taking ownership of our current administration.”

“We can let those who wish to protest, do so. As for us, we will be there enjoying our food – I am grateful to the Niger Delta.”

To summarize, we recognize that oil and gas operations in our area have caused irreversible harm to our community.
