The Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota Expressway was officially opened on Sunday following the completion of the project that commenced approximately six years ago.

Senate President, Godwill Akpabio, stood in for President Bola Tinubu during the inauguration ceremony, alongside Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other dignitaries.

The reconstruction of the Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota Expressway was a collaborative effort between the Dangote Group and the Federal Government.

Dangote explained the delay in project completion, citing that the company was initially assigned only sections one to three of the road, later realizing that section two, constructed with asphalt, was also in poor condition. He mentioned that section two was allocated to them when they were almost done with sections one and three.

The Chairman of Dangote Group emphasized the significance of the occasion in enhancing Nigeria’s infrastructure, commending the quality of the road and suggesting the replacement of asphalt roads with concrete ones by the Federal Ministry of Works.

Umahi, in his remarks, lauded construction company Hitech for their expertise in concrete road construction, stating that they are unmatched in the field.

He also highlighted the extensive work carried out by the Federal Government on the Third Mainland Bridge, which was also inaugurated on the same day, emphasizing that it went beyond mere rehabilitation.

The Senate President praised the achievements on both the Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota Expressway and the Third Mainland Bridge, acknowledging them as remarkable accomplishments.

Following the commissioning of the Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota Expressway, the Senate President and other officials departed to join President Tinubu for the commencement of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
