According to human rights lawyer Morakinyo Ogele, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu can rule the state from anywhere in Nigeria under the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
The legal expert claims that the uproar around the Governor’s whereabouts was unnecessary, especially given the fact that the state’s governance has not been affected by any problems.
Ogele, who talked with newsmen in Akure, the State capital, insisted that Akeredolu had not been trailing in his obligations as governor despite noting that the constitution did not need a governor to dwell in the state he was elected to lead.
Just five weeks after his return from a medical vacation in Germany, there has been outrage in some places over the governor’s absence from the state.
The attorney further underlined that everyone is susceptible to illness and that Akeredolu should be recognised for the numerous life-improving activities he launched throughout the State.

In our constitution, there are many gaps. No governor from outside of their state has been indicted by the constitution to carry out their duties. Because of this, our constitution needs to be changed.
“Whether a governor can do business from outside the state is not a topic that the constitution addresses. The governor is not limited to serving Ondo State, as stated anywhere in the constitution.
Politicians ascribe significance to everything. The state is currently in election preparation mode, which is the cause of the situation there.
“In my view, Akeredolu exposed this State to development. You will congratulate him for a job well done once you see the entire network of roads built under his rule.
In the State capital, work is now being done on the first flyover. Remember that during his first tenure, he built one in Ore. In the State, this has never happened before.
