On Wednesday, December 13, after receiving a letter from Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu regarding the transfer of power, Speaker Olamide Oladiji of the Ondo State House of Assembly appointed Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as acting governor.

He did, however, make it clear that a constitutional process is necessary, and he would order the Clerk of the House to provide his approval to the State Government Secretary.

Oladiji declared that the governor’s letter was approved and that he had told House members about the meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

The speaker said that there would be no sitting on the matter because, following the completion of the process of passing power to the deputy governor, he will make a press statement.

According to the Speaker’s announcement, Aiyedatiwa will immediately assume the governor’s responsibilities in an acting capacity until an official declaration to the contrary is issued.

Part of the statement says this: “Ondo State Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON has forwarded the letter on medical leave to the State House of Assembly, in accordance with the doctor’s advise regarding the necessity of medical follow-up after recovering.

The Governor’s conduct is in accordance with Section 190 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution (as amended), according to the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, who received the letter on behalf of other legislators.

The letter stated that until a formal statement to the contrary, his deputy, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will henceforth take on the duties of the governor in an acting capacity.
